About us
1onNone Basketball was created with the goal that individual improvement creates a better TEAM player. Formed in 2006 as a Basketball Instruction company by Steve Hood and John Witherspoon in Germantown Maryland, 1onNone is proud to have given instruction to over 200 students in individual sessions, 20 area High School Programs, 10 AAU programs, as well as direct instruction to 10 Washington Area All-Met selections, 15 Division 1 student athletes, 15 Division II and III student athletes, 3 athletes playing in Professional Leagues in the US, and 1 standout player currently playing Professionally in Germany who also serves as a Coach/Instructor for our program during his off season.Founded in the philosophy that practice is the key to improvement, 1onNone uses proven and reliable instruction, to teach, correct, and advance each players skill level. Believing that poor or improper practice produces poor or improper results, 1onNone strives to create the proper WORK ETHIC that a player will need to improve. Using Basic/advanced fundamentals, repetition, individual/group and small group instruction, we are confident that the player you are TODAY, will be a greatly improved player TOMORROW.
In 2009, we were proud to add a Girls 16 Under AAU program under our name. That team participated in National AAU tournaments in Richmond Virginia, Philadelphia , and USJN tournaments in Washington DC, and Hampton VA. Although wins were few in number the growth for this team would form the model for our present success, as this team featured six 8th graders, three High School JV players, and only 2 High School Varsity players.
2010 marked the arrival of 9 freshmen to our program, and 3 returning Varsity players. This team notched victories in National tournaments in Richmond Va, Philly, Baltimore, and USJN tournaments in Philly, Washington, and Hampton. In addition 2010 brought the arrival of our first State Championship player as Sophomore Bridget Rothert excelled as a key member of Seneca Valleys High Schools 2010 undefeated season.
1onNone Blue team junior guard Deja Rollins, brings the ball up court in the state final game for the Gaithersburg lady Trojans. Deja help guide the Trojans to their second straight State title and a second consecutive undefeated season!!! Covenant Life Senior Guards Kristen Mstowski and Dominique Seamon (1onNone Blue), helped guide their team to a Maryland State Christian Schools title.
Coach Wayne Cates (1onNone White) led his team to an undefeated season, while coaching both of these 1,000 point scorers!!Senior guard Bridget Rothert (1onNone Blue) celebrates scoring 1,000 points with her coach at Seneca Valley High School. Bridget was also a key member of Seneca's 2010 State Title and a 3 year 1onNone Alum!! With the arrival of the 2011 season, we continued our growth as evident by the following accomplishments during the High School season: Our only Senior Danielle Witherspoon, helped her Quince Orchard Cougars move into the Second round of the Maryland State Playoffs by leading in Points, Rebounds, Assists, minutes played and Steals for the last 10 games. Danielle is also on her way to being our first Collegiate Student-Athlete as she signed her national letter of intent to Play for Division II Chowan University of The CIAA confrence in the fall of 2011. The 2011-12 season also brought the following accomplishments :
- Junior Deja Rollins of Gaithersburg High School helped lead her team to back to back, undefeated state championships and a record of 52-0 over that time. Deja will be joined by GHS teammates Danielle Rojas and Christine Mabry who will be playing for 1onNone this season.

Five of our seniors completed High School careers as 1000 point scorers and ALL will be going on to play College basketball With success, even more growth has come as we have now added a Select ( WHITE ) Team to join our National (BLUE ) team this season. This hard work has carried over to the 2011 AAU season as both teams notched victories at the Paul VI tournament in Fairfax Va, and our BLUE team took 3rd place in our division at the Boo Williams Nike Invitational in Hampton Va, which included a win over the host team.
In 2012 we formed a 13U team coached by Bobby Bishop. This will allow 1onNone to teach, train and guide these young ladies into their high school careers. Coach Domimique Jackson and Wayne Cates will anchor our White team, and Coach Jennifer Rushin will again assist our Blue team.
In 2013 we will have four teams, the 16U coached by John Witherspoon, the 15U coached by Jenniffer Rushin and two 14U teams, coached by Steve Winters and John Witherspoon.
